Patient privacy and the security of personal health information are important to you and your patients. With the Iowa Health Information Network (IHIN), both you and your patients can rest assured knowing that Iowa e-Health has made privacy and security a top priority.
Thanks to the hard work of a diverse array of partners at the state and federal level, Iowa e-Health has developed policies that balance patient rights and provider expectations with the need for relevant information to support informed decisions and better quality health care. Partners crucial in this effort include: the Iowa e-Health Consumer Interest Group, the Iowa e-Health Executive Committee and Advisory Council, the Iowa e-Health Privacy and Security Workgroup, and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.
The IHIN complies with state and federal laws, including HIPAA, as applicable. The development of policies that relate to maters of privacy and security were informed by work done by the Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration (HISPC) project.
